The programme for the inaugural The Business of Events Wales conference was announced today.

The invitation-only event will bring together senior leaders from the Welsh business events community to discuss how Wales can attract more business events while debating many of the key issues affecting the industry today.

Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) European Advisory Board Member Ben Goedegebuure from Maritz Global Events will deliver an international perspective on market opportunities for Wales whilst Heather Lishman, Association Director of the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) will examine the question ‘What do buyers want that Wales can offer?’.

Joss Croft, Director of Network Communications at the Department of International Trade, will focus on the link between economic sectors and business events whilst Kerrin MacPhie, Head of Business Events at VisitBritain will present case studies on what makes a successful bid.

“The Business of Events Wales” will be chaired and moderated by Simon Hughes, Vice Chair of the Business Visits and Events Partnership.

Welsh Government’s Head of Business Events, Heledd Williams will also be discussing the business events strategy for Wales following the announcement of a five point plan to accelerate Wales’ growing share of the global business events market earlier this summer.

Ian Edwards, Chief Executive of the forthcoming International Convention Centre Wales, will also be updating attendees on the new convention centre due to open within the grounds of the award-winning Celtic Manor Resort in 2019.

Delegates from all over Wales and beyond will also be given the opportunity to discuss ways in which future market challenges across the industry can be overcome and opportunities for growth maximised throughout the country.

“The Business of Events Wales” is supported by VisitBritain, Welsh Government and ICC Wales and will take place at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport on 5th October 2018.
